Lac La Biche Victim Services provides assistance to victims of crime and tragedy. Primary victims are those people who have directly experienced injury, loss or trauma. Secondary victims are those people who have been affected such as family, friends or co-workers.
Both can access services through our unit.
We provide 24-hour, 7-day-a-week on-call response service to victims of crime and tragedy. Partnering with the RCMP and community agencies, our program staff and volunteer Advocates work to provide support and referrals whenever required.
The program staff and volunteer Advocates have an extensive working knowledge of the resources in and outside of the community which can provide victims additional specialized support when necessary. By providing information, we encourage empowerment to our victims to get the specialized help they need.
For those victims who will have to deal with the criminal justice system, Lac La Biche Victim Services has a court support worker who can answer questions about the process and court proceedings. He is able to do court tours, court preparation and court accompaniment, and he can also follow the case you are involved with through the court system, providing you information and updates.
Lac La Biche Victim Services coordinates the Critical Incident Stress Debriefing team for our county, and along with trained team members will facilitate sessions to help decrease the impact of the traumatic event on individuals and organizations.
